A. Arrivals and Much More

You’re here because you were dropped somewhere that tried sending you home, or you're someone with a call to the heart to explore the vast universe. The buses run at odd schedules, so please pardon any interruptions! I hope you fellas make yourselves at home, here!

[ Marjorie’s whole speech rings through your ears as you begin to explore the area. It seems a few people who arrived on the TDM have already been here for a week, but you’re just a newcomer. So where are you when this all went down? Are you trying to get back on a bus that’ll take you home, or…?

B. Home Sweet Home

[ The dust has settled on the bus ride here, and you can’t help but notice that your farmland… well, it’s a mess. Rocks and grass everywhere, no matter which layout you were set with. You were given a set of tools, and the message that this land is yours to shape or change or build on no matter what you want, so long as it’s yours. The little crate by the edge of the house is what will hold your bounties from farming, collected nightly with money delivered to your mailbox the following day, like some kind of Produce Fairy visited.

The house is in alright shape. It’s not brilliant, but it has a kitchen, a bathroom, and a studio bedroom where all your belongings can be. It’s wide enough to accommodate several things until you upgrade it.

Sometimes you see a stray dog or cat at the edge of your property. Do you adopt it?

Anyway, it’s time to make what you will of your farm. ]

FESTIVAL PLAYLIST

[ Down a hill a little ways from Pelican Town is a remarkable festival set-up! Several attractions and vendors line the streets where everything is going down. Where will you go? ]

C. Food Stalls

[ Surrounding the entire property are dozens of food stalls, from all around the universe. Marjorie bussed in caterers from all around with a healthy sum of gold, and they’re happy to sell their wares in this strange place tonight. Where you might find octopus balls, you’ll also find kraken balls. Where you might find corndogs, you’ll find dogs selling corn.

It’s a veritable buffet! And the gold you’ve started with is more than enough to go shopping for food. Have fun! ]

D. Games

[ All manners of Carnival Games are set up! From throwing a baseball at bottles to catching goldfish with a paper net, everything you can dream of is here. There are even some unorthodox games, like dance-offs, karaoke, and a little bit of everything. Apparently, the NPC couldn’t choose who to go with what. It definitely makes for a big festival.

In addition to the above, there’s water gun races, squeaky duck ponds, skee-ball, target shooting, test your strength with a hammer, pitching speed, shooting hoops… and more! ]

E. Three-legged Race

[ You didn’t think this festival was going to go by without tomfoolery, did you? For the prize of 1,000 Gold, you can rally up a partner and get tied to them by the ankle, participating in a no-rules no-bars-held race. The winners will be randomized! But the real gift is going to be the fact that the ties around your ankles? Aren’t coming undone. You’re going to have to be tied together until 11 PM! ]

F. Fireworks

[ Errant magic and mishaps aside, you have to admit, the fireworks show at the end of it all is really something. Marjorie hired a pony for them, and the lights are as ethereal as they are non-traditional. It’s a good moment to snuggle up to someone or enjoy company with a new friend. ]

[ Sasuke has been mostly observing the festivities rather than participating in them, but he can't help but investigate when he sees a young lady alone on a hill.

And he can sense when he's about to get a weapon drawn on him, so he puts his hands up nonchalantly to show that he's not armed. (Though like any good ninja, he has his weapons on him.) ]

You won't be needing those if you're heading to town. Most of the townsfolk are harmless and would rather party than fight.

[ Fia relaxes as Sasuke reveals himself and that he's not armed, holding up her hands as well.

Okay, now for the tricky part.

She nods at him, then bows her head a little -- it's something she's seen her mother do on a regular basis, and, while it's not a common gesture on their world, she's taken to following it. A sign of respect, and gratitude.

She also mouths: Thank you..

Then she points to herself, mimes zipping her mouth, and shakes her head with a sad smile. ]

[ Sasuke smiles. He's no stranger to dealing with silent people, and it's a good change from the bouts of yelling from his masters. ]

No need for any of that. If you can understand me, we can stick to yes or no questions. I'm going to guess that you're like me and came here from some other place, and you're probably wondering what to do next.

Am I on the right track?

[ He patiently waits for some kind of reply. ]

[ She visibly sighs in relief, and then nods, grinning. How lucky for her to run into someone who’s not a threat and is pleasant enough to accommodate her silence.

Then she gestures towards the festivities down the hill, her expression curious. ]

Well, then let the great Sasuke Sarutobi lead you to the festival. I haven't figure out what they're celebrating, but some people don't need much of an excuse to party.

[ He nods his head towards the stalls and starts to walk, assuming that she'll follow beside him. ]

Are you hungry? There are a lot of food stalls, so you're sure to find something you'd like.

[ That gets a giggle out of Fia, because she knows at least two people who don't need an excuse to party: her older sister, and her mother. She follows Sasuke to the stalls, footsteps light — she can't help it, she's been trained to be a spy.

At his question, she nods. Now that he mentioned it, she is quite hungry. Or maybe it's just the smell of the food filling the air, assaulting their senses.

She also grins as a thought occurs to her. Chocolate? she mouths. ]

[ They're a pair of quiet walkers: a spy being led by a ninja... who also know people who like to party.

However, being from Japan in the Warring States Era, "chocolate" is an unfamiliar word to Sasuke. He sounds out something that sounds like "chocolate," but he doesn't understand what that is supposed to mean. ]

That must be something from overseas or a different time, but...

[ He gives her a pointed look. ]

... you seem like someone who'd have a sweet tooth. I know where we can get something like that while I figure out what a "chokoreeto" is. Sound good?

[ Wait, someone who doesn't know what chocolate is? Fia's suspected she's somewhere else entirely, but that drains out the last traces of her denial. She's not on Elicoor, and she'll have to find a way to get back there and continue with the mission. But, in the meantime...

This kind man doesn't know chocolate. It must be remedied.

She nods enthusiastically at him guessing that she had a sweet tooth. You? she asks. ]

Me? Not really. But my master has a big sweet tooth.

[ It's no secret that Yukimura likes sweets. Sasuke is constantly being sent on runs to buy said sweets or being asked to make them. Sometimes, Sasuke even gets to have one of the treats before Yukimura devours them.

They arrive at a stall serving dango covered in a sweet syrup, and Sasuke orders one for her and one for himself. He holds it out to her. ]

Here, it's on the house. Give this a try.

[ Normally Sasuke isn't so charitable, but blame it on seeing his master's favorite with a good dash of homesickness. ]

[ She grins at his offer, bowing her head slightly as she mouths her thanks. Then she examines the treat curiously. She's seen all sorts of food being served on a skewer before, but sweets? It's actually a first for her.

She takes a few tentative bites — and the bites get bigger as she realizes how good it is. She's nodding approvingly, her demeanor becoming more like the teenager she's supposed to be; she hadn't had a lot of time to enjoy being one, not with the plague and the war that followed.

She points to the sweet she's halfway to consuming. ] What is this?

[ Sasuke laughs at her eagerness and takes a few bites of his own. These were good, maybe not as good as the ones he'd make for Yukimura or the store where he gets them to go, but they're good. He's in the process of licking some of the syrup off his lips when he spots her question. ]

This is called "dango." I'd recommend drinking it with tea, but it's also good on its own.

[ He could probably look for a tea stall, but he hasn't seen any that has teapots to even suggest that they'd serve tea. Ah, to be from another time period. ]
