You’re here because you were dropped somewhere that tried sending you home, or you're someone with a call to the heart to explore the vast universe. The buses run at odd schedules, so please pardon any interruptions! I hope you fellas make yourselves at home, here!

[ Marjorie’s whole speech rings through your ears as you begin to explore the area. It seems a few people who arrived on the TDM have already been here for a week, but you’re just a newcomer. So where are you when this all went down? Are you trying to get back on a bus that’ll take you home, or…?

B. Home Sweet Home

[ The dust has settled on the bus ride here, and you can’t help but notice that your farmland… well, it’s a mess. Rocks and grass everywhere, no matter which layout you were set with. You were given a set of tools, and the message that this land is yours to shape or change or build on no matter what you want, so long as it’s yours. The little crate by the edge of the house is what will hold your bounties from farming, collected nightly with money delivered to your mailbox the following day, like some kind of Produce Fairy visited.

The house is in alright shape. It’s not brilliant, but it has a kitchen, a bathroom, and a studio bedroom where all your belongings can be. It’s wide enough to accommodate several things until you upgrade it.

Sometimes you see a stray dog or cat at the edge of your property. Do you adopt it?

Anyway, it’s time to make what you will of your farm. ]

FESTIVAL PLAYLIST

[ Down a hill a little ways from Pelican Town is a remarkable festival set-up! Several attractions and vendors line the streets where everything is going down. Where will you go? ]

C. Food Stalls

[ Surrounding the entire property are dozens of food stalls, from all around the universe. Marjorie bussed in caterers from all around with a healthy sum of gold, and they’re happy to sell their wares in this strange place tonight. Where you might find octopus balls, you’ll also find kraken balls. Where you might find corndogs, you’ll find dogs selling corn.

It’s a veritable buffet! And the gold you’ve started with is more than enough to go shopping for food. Have fun! ]

D. Games

[ All manners of Carnival Games are set up! From throwing a baseball at bottles to catching goldfish with a paper net, everything you can dream of is here. There are even some unorthodox games, like dance-offs, karaoke, and a little bit of everything. Apparently, the NPC couldn’t choose who to go with what. It definitely makes for a big festival.

In addition to the above, there’s water gun races, squeaky duck ponds, skee-ball, target shooting, test your strength with a hammer, pitching speed, shooting hoops… and more! ]

E. Three-legged Race

[ You didn’t think this festival was going to go by without tomfoolery, did you? For the prize of 1,000 Gold, you can rally up a partner and get tied to them by the ankle, participating in a no-rules no-bars-held race. The winners will be randomized! But the real gift is going to be the fact that the ties around your ankles? Aren’t coming undone. You’re going to have to be tied together until 11 PM! ]

F. Fireworks

[ Errant magic and mishaps aside, you have to admit, the fireworks show at the end of it all is really something. Marjorie hired a pony for them, and the lights are as ethereal as they are non-traditional. It’s a good moment to snuggle up to someone or enjoy company with a new friend. ]

[Excuse you he keeps his hair very neat thank you!!! Just because it's raked back delinquent style, that doesn't mean that he doesn't spend time on his appearance...

Speaking of. That yukata, right? What's the damn deal with that thing, we don't even know. Kojuro's already a little nervous about wearing it so rakishly, just quietly, and when he turns his head to address Chisa he promptly fumbles his scoop and yanks his abandoned sleeve up in mild horror. And man she's Japanese too, he sees the kanzashi and--

THAT IS A LADY RIGHT UP CLOSE WHO CAN SEE HIS BOOB HE'S NOT OKAY RIGHT NOW. Quick man, put your clothes on properly, this has been a bad life choice. Okay we're cool now everything's cool shh.]

Ah. No! No, I just-- distracted. That is, I found it easy to get caught up in the simplicity of the game, so perhaps...I went overboard. [He looks from her, to the fish he's stockpiled practically writhing over each other to stay in the water, to the dramatically emptied pool. Damn. Hm.]

Do you think I should put some back? I hope I haven't put you off of trying your hand at it, Miss.

[ That's the fastest she's seen someone get dressed since the Locker Room Incident. Chisa rocks a little on her heels, but chooses instead to affect the most wide-eyed innocent look she can. ]

Ehh, I don't really have a space for fish right now... and if I had to have a pet, I'd want something fluffier! Maybe a dog or something.

[ Her lips twitch a little as she says that. A dog, indeed. Maybe a big grumpy dog that is very likely wandering around sneaking sweets when there's no one to catch him at it... ]

Anyway, I've always been better at rifle games! --But if you wanna show me how it's done, I'd like to see.

[HM. That Look has Kojuro mildly suspicious with how easy it is for her to slide into it, but for now...Chisa gets a free pass. (She'd get a double free pass if Kojuro knew that the dude he'd harassed about cotton candy was her Dog Pal, oops. He's still going to feel bad about that once it happens.)

And I mean, it's not like she's the one who had her party tit out anyway. So he can't go getting all high-falutin' about it.] There's something appealing about an animal whose emotions you can read so openly, I suppose. But I prefer the serenity of fish swimming and co-existing with each other, and I cannot say that I'm any kind of marksman, either.

[If he were ruder, he'd say something about how that speaks about them both, maybe. But he just smiles, small and polite, and pays for a new scoop.] Show me how you shoot, and I'll show you how this is played in turn. Deal?

[ Listen, Kojuro isn't wrong to be suspicious, but also look at her! She's a tiny fluffball who just looks soooooooo cute and innocent and-- well, okay, it's true. While she can pull off the innocent look, she's extremely practiced at slipping into that expression. She'd been good at it before the Incident, and she'd only gotten better since.

But she brightens up at the suggestion. That's a genuine sort of excitement; it's not the same as getting Kyousuke or Juzo to win something for her, but that was the point of wandering here tonight! To try and make friends with people other than them!! She shouldn't be comparing, she should be enjoying herself without that! ]

Yeah! That sounds good. I'll pay for that one, too. It's only fair!

[HE KNOWS BETTER. There's this one girl back home, redhead too, really good with guns, likely to shoot your nuts off if you don't show respect. You can't underestimate anyone, no matter how pretty they are! Especially if they know how to wield that prettiness.

But...It's not so bad to be cautiously less guarded about things, right? This is just games at a festival, and Kojuro's all about making new friends and not comparing them to his old ones right now too. Which is why, despite his urge to refuse Chisa's generosity, he nods and brandishes the scoop instead.]

One more condition! Your name. I must know my student's name, or I do you no honour. [And then he'll share his hot tips. But he's just gotta make sure that she's not a Saika woman. ...Just to be safe.]

Ah--! That's right, my name~

[ She strikes a bit of a pose, one hand on her hip and the other thumping (gently!!) against her chest. Her smile goes even wider, but it's still all genuine good cheer as she grins at him. ]

Yukizome Chisa, at your service!

[ There is the briefest hesitation after she says her name, a beat of a pause where, once upon a time, she would have also called herself the (former) Ultimate Housekeeper. Even after this long, the impulse lingers. Maybe she should start advertising herself with a different word for ultimate, if she means to make any headway in advertising her services for work... but that's something she can worry about later. ]

Ah, but fair's fair, now you have to tell me yours.

And Katakura Kojuro at yours, Yukizome. [He bows low, scoop jutting awkwardly off his knee, before straightening back up once more and rolling his sleeves up a little.]

Niceties out of the way, we must learn of the art. We are combatting both a moving target and time itself, so you must strike with utmost certainty. [Sleeves duly kept dry, Kojuro points at a goldfish with a spectacular tail, almost too good to be in a simple game like this.] Tosakin. I will aim for this. Certain, without causing resistance against the scoop so it might stay whole; that is what you must do.

[...Okay lesson over. He intently watches his target, scoop poised at the ready, before striking! It's too fast to see the mechanics of, but when he draws his hand back there she is, the queen of goldfish with her tail hanging uselessly over the frame of the scoop. Into the bowl she goes!] I find that aiming at an angle to allow your scoop to cut through the water helps, as does wetting the paper as wholly as you can, to minimise tearing. Now you try, Yukizome.

[ It takes a little bit of effort not to laugh. Not out of anything actually mean-spirited, just -- he's so formal! So determined! It's not anything like what she's used to (not that Kyousuke's been exactly formal lately, but he knows how to pull it out when he feels the need), but at the same time, it's almost nostalgic. Maybe a little cute, too, how seriously he's taking it... so the least she can do is try and pay attention! ]

Mm, mm... I always wondered how people would manage it with the paper! [ Not that she hasn't had experience working with delicate things to keep them from ripping, so maybe the trick is to try and transfer that experience. ] Okay! Let me give it a shot!

[ But first she has to pay, so there's a pause as she digs for her little coin purse for the money, though she's eyeing what's left in the little pool as she does. ] Which one should I pick...

[EVERY BATTLE MUST BE TREATED AS EQUAL AND EVERY OPPONENT, NO MATTER HOW FORGETFUL, MUST BE RESPECTED!!!!! Or something, I don't know. The point is that you don't get this many fish through messing about, okay. And Kojuro really wants his pond now that he thought of the idea!]

Aka Demekin. [Said almost instantly in response as he points to a reddish-gold, bug-eyed fish.] It...Hm. Never mind. [There's no polite way to phrase his thought there, even if it was meant to be complimentary. Best to skip it, right? He simply clears his throat instead, before moving closer and pointing at the chosen target, following it as it swims.]

Try to understand how it moves first. Is it faster than other fish? More nervous? Or is it docile and easy to catch? [IT'S A GOLDFISH KOJURO CHILL] I have no doubt that you will catch it, Yukizome.

Ehhh, if you put it like that, you're going to build up the anticipation too much!

[ But even as she says that, she settles herself into position, frowning intently at the water. Red and gold, huh... it would be kind of cute to match, if only colorwise. ~~She is cuter than a fish, thank you!!~~

For a few long seconds she doesn't move at all. She might not even be breathing. For such a small fluffy girl, she can occasionally pull out something that is much more predatorily intent.

And then her arm flashes, a blur of movement, as she scoops up that fish. Hah! ]

[Please, what sort of teacher doesn't at least try to start a lesson by interesting the student? He learned that much the hard way, okay.

And...Well, it's clearly paid off. Even if he can't take credit for Chisa's intimidating aura, he can damn well take credit for firing up her passion for the art! In fact, Kojuro's almost...Getting a little too fired up; perhaps it's the fact that he doesn't need to be the responsible one for once, can actually let loose like a human being instead of having to temper every harebrained, heated idea his stupid shit boss who he loves very much comes up with.

And that's why, as soon as she goes in for the kill, Chisa gets the scariest cheerleader alive. His posture's relaxed so that he looks positively delinquent, one thumb hooked into his obi and the other holding his scoop over his shoulder, brow furrowed as he leans down to glower at her flopping prize.]

My anticipation was absolutely worth it, Yukizome. You have not let me down; it is as beautiful as I thought it was going to be. ...Both your performance and your catch! Now! Again! Choose your own and go until your arm hurts and your scoop tears from the force of your passions!

Ouuuuu!!

[ She pumps her fist in the air, beaming at him. The poor vendor at the booth is probably starting to look a little gray at the edges, but who cares about him! She's got some cash, she has no supervision, and it's a festival night! These things are supposed to be fun, and now that she's won once, her taste for victory has been ignited.

She rolls up her sleeves a bit further and digs around for another coin, which she flips over to the poor booth vendor. Which one next? She has a red one, so ideally... a white one, and maybe if there's any that are more green-gold in color... hmmm.

But since this is a fantasy farm world, she does light upon one that has yellow markings that are closer to green, even for a fish in a small pond. ] --That one! That one next. I have to get the whole set!!

[ She doesn't bother to elaborate. But she needs two green ones and a white one at least before she can stop!! ]

[HOO RAH! ...Except Kojuro doesn't holler. He just nods sagely, mouth barely quirking up in a tiny smile of approval. He's damn well devolved a touch, purely out of intensity bouncing between both of them. HE CAN'T BE ACTING LIKE THIS AROUND A LADY BUT HE IS. KOJURO...]

Get the whole damn set, Yukizome. These fish deserve a home where they will be cared for, and to perform like this to obtain them, they'll know that you're going to do everything in your power to look after them! Life and death! You're saving them from obscurity.

Give your all to them, and they'll give their all to you! Go hard! Yukizome! Get your set! [...Even if he's not exactly shouting, even raising his voice a little like this is terrifying on a guy like Kojuro. The booth vendor looks like he might be having a heart attack right about now, and not just because his stocks are being so rapidly emptied.]

[ Luckily for Chisa (or maybe not), she has pretty much No Fear.* So when Koujuro ends up thundering like that, she just cheers again. All right! She has to complete her set! It's no good if this one red fish is all alone; it'll surely wither away and die from loneliness!! Can that actually happen to fish? Who cares.

* Life and experience has taught her Some Fear, but she's used to large and overly boisterous guys, not just grouchy stoic ones. This just feels familiar. She'll probably never see her students again, but it's nice to be reminded of happier times, even in passing.

But once she's focused... it doesn't actually take her long at all. The poor vendor loses three more fish in rapid succession, though Chisa only remembers to pay after she's made her catch. And after she's made sure they're in individual bags big enough for them. Once she has, she finally pays up, though she's radiating smug satisfaction. Do they have a place to keep these fish? She has no idea. But if they're consolidating the farms assigned to each of them, surely one of them will work... ]

Aha~ oops. ♥ Looks like I got the rest of the good ones!

[DAMN CHISA DAMN YOU HARDCORE AS HELL. Kojuro's stuck here looking even more impressed. What a gal. What a fast learner. He tucks his own very large, but singular bag of fish into his yukata so that it stupidly bulges out, just so he can applaud her properly.

That seems a little more fitting than bowing or anything, anyway.]

Spared from my own greed; that's not so bad an ending to this. You did even better than I expected, and I expected much of my student; Yukizome, you deserve those fish as they deserve you to look after them.

[And then he puts a hand gently on her shoulder; he might be slipping back into his more brutish habits right now, but that doesn't keep him from being gentlemanly about it. If that even makes sense. What is a Kojuro.] Ｇｏｏｄ　ｗｏｒｋ．

[How is he speaking Dragon Tongue when everything is probably autotranslated? Who knows.]

[ She laughs at that, pleased and preening under the praise. It takes a second to juggle her new burden to one hand, but then she flashes him a thumbs-up. English isn't her best language, but even that she knows. ]

Eheh! I'll take good care of them. ♥ We weren't really thinking about getting pets or anything like that, but~...

[ Maybe having a koi pond wouldn't be such a bad thing. They could get some water lilies, maybe plant some cherry trees... it wouldn't be the same as the idealized spring days from her high school years, but maybe it could be close. And it'd be in line with Kyousuke's aesthetic tastes too, so it probably wouldn't be too difficult to convince him. ]

Anyway! Now it's my turn, right? I'll show you how to shoot.

I expect you to; I might even drop in unexpected and visit them, just to be sure. Do you have names in mind? [Given she was so set on...Getting the set and all, he figures yes.

Still...They can discuss that on the way, right? Kojuro bows to the vendor without taking his eyes off Chisa, still pretty impressed at how terrifying she really is under the fluffiness, before offering her an elbow. It's only right, since she proved herself worthy of his respect and all...]

Thank you for this honour; I will be a worse shot than you were a scooper, I fear, but I hope that you can still bear with my lacklustre efforts at shooting.

Hmmmm~ if you think you'll catch me off guard, you'll be sadly disappointed.

[ She tosses her head a little, which doesn't have quite the same effect when her hair is all pinned up, but she's at least got the confidence to back it up. But since he offered it, she curls a hand into the crook of his elbow, as dainty and demure as anything. ]

If you show up, you'll be treated to the best hospitality you'll ever experience! Good aim isn't the only skill I have. ♥

[ In fact, despite her boasting about it, it's one of those things that she's good at and just sort of tangentially brushes aside. You know, like most of those assholes at Hope's Peak do. On to the shooting gallery games! ]

So you'll be on guard at all times, then? You'll wear out if you wind up so constantly, and then I'll strike. Hard, fast, and uninvited.

[Careful to not hit the fish, Kojuro thumps his free fist on his chest and--

uh which stall was the shooting one again? He squints, slowly turning them both around as he contemplates each nearby stall, before-- ah, there. Not too far either, and a little smaller than the scooping stall purely for the fact that it doesn't need a long pool full-- formerly full of fish.]

Yukizome...I wouldn't ever think that a woman would have only one skill. That's how you get yourself killed, isn't it?

You're welcome to try. But a good housekeeper is always prepared! In order to be the best, you have to know how to have everything in place and ready to go, even when you're relaxed!

[ She's actually used to this, in a weird sort of way, holding onto some significantly larger dude as he moves them around. Usually it had been in the context of war and attack situations, but maybe someday, she'll try western dancing...

But at his question, she breaks into a sunny smile, innocent as anything. ]

It's at least one way. You'd be surprised at how many men do.

They clearly have not seen the sheer terror even the loveliest of women can cause. You haven't heard of Maeda Matsu, have you? She keeps two formidable warriors under thumb as well as being an accomplished warrior and cook...She'd be terrifying to see angry, I think.

[That's not even getting into Oichi, because holy shit Oichi. That's the sort of thing that'll haunt his nightmares, thank you.]

Actually, now that I think on it...I feel that you two would make either grand rivals or friends, or perhaps both. But Maeda Matsu does not, as far as I know, know how to fire a gun so well as to brag openly to a stranger about it with easy confidence. [With that, Kojuro fishes out a few coins from his coinpurse and hands them over to the vendor, who looks puzzled by the pair they make. Or maybe it's just Kojuro's boldly-patterned yukata?]

Now. Please teach me, Yukizome; I wish to see this skill of yours.

I'd rather be friends with another woman than her rival! As long as she wasn't trying to step in on my men, I'm not interested in fighting. ...But, if she were, I guess I'd give her credit for having good taste.

[ She takes the toy gun with a hum, hefting its weight in her hands to get a feel of things. Knowing carnival games, it's almost certainly rigged. ]

This won't be the same as shooting a real gun, for sure. Booths like this, they always tamper with the aim a little to make it harder for you. So the first time, I usually want to pick a point that I think is right, and see how far off the mark I am, in which direction.

[ Saying that, she lifts it to her shoulder and takes aim. The vendor looks a little annoyed at the commentary, but says nothing as she fires... and hits one of the wooden targets, but left of the actual bullseye mark. Hm. ]

[OHHHHHHHHHH DAAAAAMMMNNNNNNN CHISA FUCKING SLAY, WE STAN A POPGUN QUEEN

...Which is to say that Kojuro, even with his high expectations, is still amazed. Mouth-hanging-open-fists-clenched-by-his-side amazed. Both at how systematically she tears the game apart into a simple scam, and how good her marksmanship is even with the rigging.

This is genuinely exciting for him, okay! He actually drops halfway down to a squat, fists still clenched as he brings them up into a cheering position.]

Yukizome...You're so ruthless! You destroyed this man's livelihood without a second thought for all to hear! You are a true warrior!

Ehehe~

[ She pitches her voice cutesy for that, but there's definitely a wicked gleam in her eye as she brings the gun back up to her shoulder. So what if housekeeping doesn't actually need things like precision aim? She might not be the Ultimate Sharpshooter or anything like that, but one doesn't go through years at Hope's Peak without picking up ridiculous levels of skill in other things too.

Her second shot definitely hits straight home, and then she can't resist the bit of showmanship of blowing across the end of the gun before she sets it down again. She beams at the scowling vendor before looking up at the rows of prizes. Hmmm. What silly overly large stuffed toy does she want? ]

It's just about having a good eye and a steady arm! And knowing when to blink, and when to hold steady.

[Well that's not fucking horrific at all. He literally shudders at the sight, still locked in Goon Cheering Position.

Note: Do not piss Yukizome off or she'll likely destroy everything you love. Love, Kojuro.]

As with any weapon, but especially so. [Okay...Well, she made it look easy, but that's just a mark of skill in itself, isn't it? Kojuro straightens, cracks his back a little, and takes up the gun to measure it in his hands while Chisa picks out her prize.]

Do they have any dragons to win? That might make me try harder.
