You know, these things aren't really that difficult to use, once you get used to it.

[Martel gives a little wave into the camera and a bright smile.]

Well, it's been a busy first day! I won't bore anyone with the details, but I wanted to introduce myself and make both an offer and a request, so here we are.

My name is Martel Yggdrasill. I was a healer back home, so if you get hurt, please don't hesitate to call on me. I know there's a doctor in town, but if you're closer to (INSERT FARM PLOT HERE), you might as well come down and see me.

Anyway, I'm trying to get an orchard started, but I've run into the slight complication of funds. I'm not necessarily asking for a loan or anything, just some advice as to how to best scrape together some... seed money.

[And the entire spectrum of humor groans in pain.]

If you're curious as to how quickly my efforts will... bear fruit, well, I have something to show you.

[Another terrible pun is followed by her promptly turning her device to take in a... full-grown apple tree. With several ripe, juicy looking apples already hanging from it.

I do intend to do just that! And after a certain point, I will reach a point where the money I make from selling fruit will be far more than what I am spending to plant new trees. My only concern is how long it will take before I can get enough for so much as one new tree.

Like so many things in the world, getting started is really the hardest part. Hmmm... perhaps I could partner with a pastry chef and start selling apple pies, tarts and the like.

That...sounds good. For new apple trees...you just need the seeds, right? You can take the ones from the apples you have, I think...?

I don't know much about farming, though. Back home, the Gladekeeper kept everything nice and green...and just full of life.

The seeds take longer to grow, and I can't accelerate them too much or I risk damaging or even killing the tree during the process, but yes, the seeds can still be of use to grow more apple trees specifically.

I suppose "Gladekeeper" is a fairly straightforward job description.

[liorafae]

I...suppose? Good luck with the orchard...

Well, the Gladekeeper...isn't really a job description. It's the name of the deity of the Nature flight.

[At least the only name the dragons know. If the deities had actual names, they were lost in the sands of time.]

Thank you! I will be putting my full effort into it.

Oh, a deity. Well, that explains how they were able to keep things growing and alive without any difficulty. Unfortunately, I doubt we have anything like that to help us here.

[Not going to claim the "Goddess" title for herself here. She didn't like it for four thousand years, that's not going to change now.]

It would seem not...but I know the elements are still present, even if the deities are not.

Well, yes. I'm not entirely certain what a world without elements would look like, even if some of the things we know aren't called elements everywhere.

For example, a world with light and darkness would be... very strange. Could we even see?

[liorafae]

Most likely not. And the balance between all the elements is important as well. For light and darkness, that's why we have day and night.

[loving_goddess]

Oh absolutely. Imagine earth without wind, for example. Fire without ice. Water without lightning. Unbalance the elements and you have chaos. It's one of the basics of magic in my world.

[liorafae]

Indeed. It's amazing how nature can be so destructive, and yet so vital to the worlds and everything that lives in them...

[loving_goddess]

When nature destroys something, it's usually just a side effect of re-balancing on a larger scale. Unfortunately, the works of mortals, even the most impressive ones, are just so small and fragile in comparison that even a slight shift for a world as a whole could prove devastating for an entire country.

[liorafae]

[That gives her some pause. She hadn't thought of it, but recalling Sornieth's history, she can see it to be true.]

Hmm...that is true, now that I think of it. And yet the people's work can throw nature off balance as well, and possibly destroy everything.

[loving_goddess]

I've seen that before as well, yes. Short-sighted actions can build up remarkably quickly, especially when people have gathered enough understanding of the laws of the world to create truly impressive things.

[This is cutting worryingly close to her and the other Seraphims' quest four thousand years ago.]

[Liora would be curious about the quest as well.]

So...what things have you seen people create?

Spiraling towers, giant castles, huge towns, flying machines... all so many wonderful, amazing things.

And then... then they turn that same knowledge to warfare.
