You know, these things aren't really that difficult to use, once you get used to it.

[Martel gives a little wave into the camera and a bright smile.]

Well, it's been a busy first day! I won't bore anyone with the details, but I wanted to introduce myself and make both an offer and a request, so here we are.

My name is Martel Yggdrasill. I was a healer back home, so if you get hurt, please don't hesitate to call on me. I know there's a doctor in town, but if you're closer to (INSERT FARM PLOT HERE), you might as well come down and see me.

Anyway, I'm trying to get an orchard started, but I've run into the slight complication of funds. I'm not necessarily asking for a loan or anything, just some advice as to how to best scrape together some... seed money.

[And the entire spectrum of humor groans in pain.]

If you're curious as to how quickly my efforts will... bear fruit, well, I have something to show you.

[Another terrible pun is followed by her promptly turning her device to take in a... full-grown apple tree. With several ripe, juicy looking apples already hanging from it.

It's really kind of you to worry about that, by the way.

[He smiles a little wider, before changing the subject.]

As for the money problem, have you considered selling your apples?

[loving_goddess]

Well, naturally that's how I intend to start. Eventually I'll have enough trees growing that selling the fruit that comes from them will be enough to offset the costs of purchasing the saplings.

It's just that apples only sell for so much, and tree saplings are remarkably expensive, so I was asking for ways to supplement that income, at least for the time being. Fortunately, I've actually gotten several good ideas already.

That's true. I didn't factor in how expensive the saplings would be in comparison to how much you'd get for the apples. I'm sorry about that!

[He laughs a little, sheepish.]

I'm glad you've gotten some good ideas, though! If it's not too much to ask, do you think you could pass any along? I may need the advice myself in the future...

Oh heavens don't apologize. I was startled at the cost of a single sapling myself.

[Pierre is a money-grubbing ass.]

Many of mine are specific to my own situation, such as selling cuttings of my tree or growing saplings of my own from the apple seeds to sell, but there was the suggestion of foraging for useful items in the forest. I think anyone can do that one with a little preparation.

Oh, foraging for items in the forest does sound like a good idea! Maybe I should do that with my girfriend and Faith.

[A brief pause.]

After we do that preparation stage, of course. I wouldn't want us to get into trouble.

Naturally. To wander out in the forest without making the proper preparations... well, I for one would be rather annoyed with anyone who did that.

[idealisticartist]

I think I'd be more worried. ...that's not to say that I don't understand why you'd be annoyed, of course!

I would be worried right up until they were found, then irritated. It's... the sort of reaction you tend to get used to when you're looking after someone.

[idealisticartist]

...mmm, yes. I get that completely. [Not only because he's well aware she has a younger brother, but he has a little sister himself.] When you're looking after someone, you want them to be safe and not recklessly jump headfirst into things.

[Even outside of family members he's had to look after in the past, it sometimes feels the same way with his girlfriend too.]

Exactly. You really hope that they'll have some basic self-preservation instincts, at least.

[Granted, in her case, at least Mithos had magic to protect him even from a young age.]

All we can really do is keep nudging them in the right direction, right? [He laughs weakly. As much as he wants to ignore it, the discussion is slightly uncomfortable, if only because of what he knows becomes of Martel through Mithos. To have someone who looked after you with such care be taken away from you... it's an overwhelmingly sad thing to think about.] In any case, I'll be sure that not only am I thoroughly prepared, but my housemates are too.
