You know, these things aren't really that difficult to use, once you get used to it.

[Martel gives a little wave into the camera and a bright smile.]

Well, it's been a busy first day! I won't bore anyone with the details, but I wanted to introduce myself and make both an offer and a request, so here we are.

My name is Martel Yggdrasill. I was a healer back home, so if you get hurt, please don't hesitate to call on me. I know there's a doctor in town, but if you're closer to (INSERT FARM PLOT HERE), you might as well come down and see me.

Anyway, I'm trying to get an orchard started, but I've run into the slight complication of funds. I'm not necessarily asking for a loan or anything, just some advice as to how to best scrape together some... seed money.

[And the entire spectrum of humor groans in pain.]

If you're curious as to how quickly my efforts will... bear fruit, well, I have something to show you.

[Another terrible pun is followed by her promptly turning her device to take in a... full-grown apple tree. With several ripe, juicy looking apples already hanging from it.

[She personally thinks he's giving her too much credit, but she doesn't see any reason to voice that. She'll just take the compliment and smile in appreciation.

And then he shifts the camera around so she can get a good look at him and... Oh. Okay.] I see why you were concerned. Well, it is good to meet you, Mister Plo. Martel is perfectly fine. I don't see any need for standing on formality.

I can understand that. Some of those higher up in the social structure, nobility in particular, tend to be rather... touchy.

[And oh how they hold grudges for being slighted.]

Ah, that's actually rather interesting. The source of my abilities is referred to as "mana", an all-pervasive energy that is at once a part of and created by all living things, though on my world at least, it comes mostly from what is known as the Great Kharlan Tree. Mana enables countless things, from my healing to others who can wield the elements for battle, to even powering complex machinery, known as magitechnology.

I have actually seen the Tree with my own eyes, yes. It was... nothing short of breathtaking. Like standing in the heart of the sun, but not being vaporized.

[She's still kind of amazed, in a horrified way, that the magitech used for war had somehow reached the point where they drew in so much mana that it threatened the Tree's continued survival.]

I wish there had been a pilgrimage like that. I feel like if more people in my world had experienced what I had in that moment, there would have been a bit more respect for the balance of nature.

[Maybe no mana cannon? Maybe no trying to harness the life-force of the planet for war? Just maybe?]

Properly utilized, technology is a wonderful thing. It can make it easier to visit and form bonds with our neighbors, help prevent diseases, and enable countless new discoveries.

It's when it's used irresponsibly that things go very wrong, very fast.
