Mingle post: Haunted House Maze
What: Sebastian opens a haunted-house maze
When: Open for the entire month of October 1 to 31, but the post is open forever. Open in the late afternoons to late nights, the haunted house is closed after midnight. If you visit the house after 9pm, the lights of the house will shut off and the house is completely dark, but flashlights will be given to guests.
Other information: Just put in your subject title if you're OTA or if you want to lock it if you have parties/CR involved in mind! There are convenient NPCs on the premises to serve as actors or security guards. Please don't injure or kill them, they are residents and locals from that valley Sebastian hired to maintain the house and as the manager, he protects them. Otherwise, feel free to accidentally break any props or furniture while on the property, but Sebastian will immediately replace them. More info and house layout on the ooc comm if you have questions to ask!

"Good evening and greetings everyone. I am Sebastian, the butler of the Phantomhive Household. On the behalf of the Earl Phantomhive, I want to announce that we officially open a haunted house to celebrate this month's festivities. There's a fee for admissions so visit us during opening hours. If you have any questions, feel free to ask my staff on the premise or ask me any questions you may have. All are invited and welcome."
Action
The haunted house is a classic Victorian house, a small size manor that is located on a hill where everyone can see the decorations of pumpkins and ghouls being placed on the frontyard. A steep cobblestone step leads up toward the house. The signs outside on the front to make it look ominous and scary with stoney ridgeback gargoyles guarding the front gate.
The house is not really haunted, but Sebastian sure decorates and designed it to look that way. At the front desk, the clerk on duty handed out maps and everyone is given a map of the house's layout upon entry and the map shows the emergency exit signs. If the guests visit after 9pm, the house is completely dark and flashlights will be given to guests.
The house has four levels and the property is categorized into five zones: The first floor, the second floor, the third floor, and the fourth floor which happens to be the attic. The fifth zone is the hedge maze garden which is located in the backyard and is connected to one of the exits.

OTA
So usually, Sebastian comes much later in the evenings after serving dinner, with him managing the staff he employs for the haunted house and manned it behind the front desk. He makes sure everyone is rehearsed for their parts and were positioned in the right rooms of the house while keeping tabs of the employees and the cashiers, and greeting customers behind the front desk at the entrance door.
[OOC: Sebastian is working behind the front desk, so for this top-level, you can ask him questions or ask him to give a tour, etc. OTA means it's open for everyone! He also closes the house after closing time.]

She enters the house and takes a look around, holding her hands above her breasts as a crystal ring is on her finger. She doesn't quite notice Sebastian but one thing he should notice almost right away....
....
There are no shoes or slippers or anything on Leanne's feet. Just bare feet, tracking some dirt into the house as she goes to look around.
no subject
When he noticed Leanne was out of place, and the staff doesn't know what to do with her because of her striking angelic-like appearance. It was then Sebastian spoke up. At the sight of the lack of shoes, and her leaving tracks of dirt over the carpet...and this is just the front desk lobby area.
"Excuse me, Ma'am. Can I help you?" He said, being polite. "If you want to get into the haunted house, I'm afraid you must find some shoes to wear."
no subject
"I was only curious about such a place as I never heard of a haunted house. I wonder what makes it so haunted." She goes to start idle chit-chatting. She was not comfortable being here as there were so many Beorcs but she was doing her best.
"Are you the one in charge of this place?" So many sweet smiles and tones.
no subject
The demon butler is being patient with her now. He was wondering how she gets around with wearing nothing for her feet. He's being patient with every guest that came with his way.
"Now if you want to come in, we can let you borrow a pair of shoes or sandals. If you can tell me your size, then my staff can run downstairs and fetch a pair for you." As he didn't like to shoo guests away, it's impolite.
"Otherwise, you may have to come back at a later time until you find something to wear on your feet." He said, with much authority as he is the manager and boss of this place.
Closed to Abel
Picking up a map and a flashlight, Sheena flicked hers on and held it under her chin in typical "scary" fashion and gave Abel a wide-eyed look and spoke in a "spooky" voice.
"Are you ready to be scared, Abel?"
Because she sure was.
no subject
Tucking away the map, but holding the rental flashlight and flicked it on.
She's not scary...yet. "They weren't kidding when they said it's completely dark." He said. "I'll try to brave this. I would like to see if they can give me a good heart attack." Since admittedly there are very few things that scare him.
Getting inside the entrance door and see the other side is completely dark and heard strange eerie sounds from people who went previously before, waiting for her to check. Instinctively, making sure she follow and stick close to him. "Remember, in case we get lost, we can use the phone or find our way back here to the lobby."
no subject
Definitely a step up from what she had recently been through.
And she's doing her utmost to add to the atmosphere and be scary, flicking the flashlight still under her chin off and on. Leaving it on, she gives him an impish smile. "Well, that's certainly one way to rate a haunted house," she says with a chuckle.
Keeping the light on, she follows him, her eyes glistening at the darkness beyond. Still in "imp" mode, there's more than a hint of mischievousness in her voice when she responds. It may not just be the people in the house he has to worry about scaring him tonight.
"Oh yeah, I remember. By the way, I did mention that ninja happen to like the night and the dark, didn't I?"
Explains so much, doesn't it?
no subject
At this point, Abel braced himself. He wasn't used to this type of entertainment. He usually likes quiet places to meditate and study, like the beach and garden to read, write, or immerse in his paintings. Probably Sheena is more enthusiastic than he is, which is unfortunate for him.
Hearing a lot of screaming and yelling from the other guests. "I don't expect this place to be noisy!" At that, he kept his own flashlight on while trying to navigate through the darkness without clumsily bumping his foot against the furniture in the dark rooms.
Explains quite a bit! "I don't think you mentioned before. But now that you did, I guess you went through all of that training---ACK!" At this point, a scary bloodied clown just jumped out of the corner, seemingly out of nowhere to give the poor priest a fright. "Bloody hell, don't scare me like that!"
Who knew the mild-mannered priest can swear a bit, even in a place like this?
no subject
Moving with him, Sheena tilted her head slightly. "Yeah, there does seem to be more screaming than I expected. Maybe it's a really large group?" The ninja kept going, keeping her guard down so she could be frightened silly when the time came. Otherwise, she might punch someone instead of enjoying it.
And she wasn't disappointed. Although, she wasn't sure what startled her more: The clown leaping out at her, or Abel's reaction to said clown. Looking at her friend, her concerned gaze was revealed in the beam of her flashlight.
"Abel, are you all right? We can go back if you want."
If he wasn't enjoying himself, then Sheena wouldn't.
no subject
The clown that scared Abel is circling around him, and Abel realized basing on the height, it's probably a teenager who is good at scaring folks out of nowhere, though the actor is making growling noises at him, and if it weren't for Abel learned politeness, he is sorely tempted to growl back as he realized the clown...isn't scary enough for him.
Then with a smile, as Abel uses the flashlight to aim a beam of light toward the hallway. "I'm all right, I just didn't expect that. So please, let's continue..I'm sorry about that." He meant the swearing as he used to swear when he was much younger. "We can continue." Then with a laugh, sensing Sheena is worried. "Let see what's beyond the hall, maybe toward the living room. Looks like the group before us have passed to the next room."
They just started, and there's plenty of rooms to explore and tour around. After all, it takes much more than a clown to scare a
former blood-thirsty crusnikpriest away.no subject
But judging from the previous group's screams, his method is pretty effective.
"If you're sure," she says, turning her light down the hall. So he reacts the same way she does when startled, huh? "And don't worry about the swearing." She gives a sheepish chuckle. "I can get a little carried away myself." "Little" being an understatement. She checks her map against the rooms he's mentioned and nods. "Okay, let's go."
Maybe they'll run into something that will legitimately scare them both--and not just startle them into cursing. Or hitting.
OPEN (one closed prompt)
[Of course he was there to see what had become of his idea. And he has to admit that Sebastian has, as usual, outdone himself. He never really doubted him, even with the changes they'd both gone through by being on other worlds.
What he sees is what he's most used to. The house looks a great deal like one back in England, which he instinctively knows means there's plenty of rooms to get lost in or get frightened. He's actually a little worried that some people really might get lost for a long period here.
At least Sebastian probably knows the layout perfectly if they need to search for anyone.]
[CLOSED TO SOMAKEMELAUGH AND NOFAKES]
[He knows Halloween is Undertaker's favorite holiday, and with his brother back from the dead, it all seems too perfect. Even if he and his twin are off to a rocky start, they're still brothers, and they're all family. A bit of time together really can't hurt.
And it's a better way for them to spend time together than anything he'd have thought up. Which is to say, he wouldn't have been able to come up with anything even vaguely interesting.
Once they're all there, he's already gotten flashlights for all three of them, although he imagines he and Undertaker will be more comfortable with them than his brother, coming straight from England.]
no subject
[Despite it all, he appears with a smile, per his norm, and a set of robes and boots fitting what he had once been, looking about the place as if he could properly see it.]
So, this is it, is it?
no subject
She somehow found herself trapped in a room and gotten tangled up in sheets, to the point where her mouth was covered. She looks over towards the door and just has... The worlds most pathetic and hopeful expression. Please let someone find her and soon. She wants out of here.]
no subject
He's not sure what kind of system Sebastian has in place to check the house to be sure it's clear but he goes room by room, leaving the doors open when he's done so he knows what's been checked and what hasn't.
Before long, he comes on Leanne's room and flicks on the lights without expecting much. Nobody had reported anyone missing yet- at least, he hadn't heard about it. It could have been that Sebastian was trying to let him enjoy time with his little family.
It isn't hard to spot her when he comes in, blinking in surprise for only a moment before moving quickly to her side and starting to untangle the sheets. Uncovering her mouth first, of course.]
Are you alright?
no subject
Emerald eyes blink at the sight of such a little nestling coming to her aide. Leanne just goes to blush quite a bit as her mouth was uncovered first before her wings were untangled from the sheets.]
Yes... Yes, I am. Thank you.
[So much blushing from her own embarrassment and at easily she gotten tangled.]
I must apologize for looking so unseemly right now. I am in your debt for freeing me.
no subject
You don't owe me any debts. I know I wouldn't want to be stuck in here all night.
no subject
Thank you all the same. Something frightened me and the next thing I knew... I was like how you found me.
no subject
I'm not all that surprised, plenty of things could happen when you're frightened. Let's be glad it was something so harmless as being tangled up. A haunted house might be a bit much in the future though, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would hate to see you hurt.
no subject
When they checked in at the front desk, he made a bow to the both of them, still playing the host. "Good evening. I hope all of you enjoy yourselves tonight. It's completely dark inside, so please use the flashlight to find your way through the darkness."
Though he glared a little at the older twin and the Undertaker. The demon loyalty follows his true Master, the younger. While he trusts nothing will go wrong as long the Undertaker goes with them together inside, being the chaperone, the little one and the Undertaker still don't quite trust the demon...and the mistrust is mutual, but for Astre sake, the demon decided to play along for appearances and smile warmly, being friendly...for now.
"Please, enjoy yourselves, and if anything goes wrong, there are designated exits if it gets too intense."
no subject
It was probably out of place, at least to what Sebastian was used to, but the teen smiled up at him in response, holding the lit flashlight under his chin like he'd seen some kids in Riverview do around Halloween. Mixed with the hooded sweater he'd picked up, he hoped he made a moderately spooky sight.
"Thank you, Sebastian. For putting all this together." It felt a litter easier now, talking with him, with all the fears he'd held about the contract seals removal and his soul when he'd arrived. At least, now that he knew Sebastian wasn't going to eat him immediately.
"I'm sure it'll be a hit!"
no subject
His expression reveal nothing when Astre disappeared behind the door with the group, other than being hard at work and being a professional and still working. Still, it was a test of trust when he's gone with them. Without the contract seal, he won't be able to sense him at a far distance unless Astre is close by his side. But at this point, they had a discussion and reached an agreement on the condition of their bond.
It was after closing time, that Sebastian and his staff works together to clean the rooms and shut-down for the day. No one can be dismissed until the premises is clear of guests.
Before Astre can go home, Sebastian met up with him in the lobby, "Young Master, would you like to help me closing the house?" After all, the house might be more interesting and more fun after closing time, and perhaps quiet now that the guests are gone, and tonight's show is finished.
no subject
"Gladly, Sebastian. It's the least I could do, after all, since you put everything together." And it wouldn't be scary this time like when he'd gone through with his family. A definite benefit there.
no subject
The house is completely different during closing time. With the lights on, it's easy to see the props, the paints of blood and gore on the walls and floor, and the spooky décor in each room and how it was set up specifically to look terrifying. The lights reveal the set and the furniture. The house is no longer scary with the lights on, but it's easy to see it's all set up as part of the act.
"It's easy to do. Just check very room and make sure they're empty, and if you find someone, lead them back to the lobby. Leave the clean up to me and the staff. If you need help, just give me a call on the phone."
Overall, Sebastian did...find it fun to set up everything, considering it was a tradition back at the manor that Ciel is a host and Sebastian the servant did the rest.
no subject
"I can handle that. Are you sure you don't need help cleaning though? It doesn't entirely feel right to just leave it to everyone else." And he'd done his fair share of chores in Riverview and since arriving here. Anything to make life easier for the lot of them, especially with the house here being smaller than anything he's ever lived in before.
At least this was a little more interesting than in England though. With the exception of all the traditions that the other servants had suggested mixing into the event.
no subject
The butler enjoyed upkeeping the Phantomhive tradition, if not for the aesthetics. At least, his Young Master shall now be known for his reputation in fun and games for the locals to learn.
Grinning, the demon did nudge Astre to have fun while he works. "The house is empty now." So it's less scary. And the staff who plays the monsters behave normally as they doubled their jobs as the clean up crew. "Feel free to explore and have a look around. I will allow you to stay up late even though it's way past your bedtime."
Usually Sebastian is strict in maintaining schedule and curfews...but for now, he's being pretty lenient and laidback even for being the butler.
no subject
When he found himself being nudged, he couldn't help a little grin and a faint chuckle. "You must realize by now that Undertaker and I have stayed up late a few times." Although, Undertaker tended to be just as careful about Astre's health and making sure he slept enough. Especially after he had made himself sick once already, in Riverview, by denying himself sleep.
He'd gotten an earful for that and he didn't recount the incident to Sebastian. Another scolding for the precious year wasn't high on his list of wants.
"What would you suggest I see?"
no subject
With the butler around, he will make sure Astre will sleep on time. The demon is only learning how fragile humans can be, especially with human's weakness to disease and illnesses as the demon is immune to such fragilities, especially Astre's condition concerning his allergies and asthma.
At his question, the demon turned to look at the stairs, where the lights light up the stairs and up in the halls on the second floor. "Start anywhere you like. Though if you want to help with the linens and sweeping, you may check if there is anyone is in need of assistance on the second floor where the bedrooms are and check the empty bedrooms up there. That would be a start."
no subject
"I have had an extra year. A little more now though, I suppose." Not quite grown up but he'd grown more than he had been. He'd learned to cook, but that had become a necessity. Sort of. Undertaker had been appalled to find Ciel eating instant meals or take-out, when he'd moved into his apartment. He hadn't wanted to ask anyone for help or give any hints that he couldn't manage on his own.
"I could do that, I'm sure." A pause, and curious: "What are you going to do?"
no subject
With Sebastian around and living in the countryside, he hopes Astre eats less of the processed, junk food and focus on the healthier foods that the valley has to offer when cooked right. It wouldn't make him any more appetizing. Souls are what they ate for one lifetime and he'll be damned if Astre tastes like instant ramen noodles or like greasy foods available, so the demon would be equally appalled but for a different reason.
"I'll check the rest of the house." Before Astre went up the stairs. "You'll be all right. The lights are on now and the staff are not monsters. They're the residents of the valley who wears makeup and costume, so that was all." As Sebastian is confident with the lights on, no one gets lost. "If you get lost, just come back downstairs and meet me and wait for me in the lobby."
no subject
Astre might have argued though that sometimes greasy food or instant ramen was worth the lack of nutritional value. It was simply good for the soul, and he would realize the irony in that. A bit like the sweets he tried to indulge in a little too often.
"Alright." And then a cheeky little grin. "I'll try not to get too lost. You did a good job on all of this, I wouldn't be surprised to find a few tricks and surprises left over that no one found."
no subject
Whether her husband decided to come with.. she left that up to him. To her, haunted houses were laughable and something she usually went to just to see how silly they were.]
no subject
After all, it's bonding time for the mother and child, and Alucard very much wanted to catch up, but working on the field means a difference in getting their source of income to pay for the upgrades and construction of their house, which soon to be a manor as the workers are building the nursing room under construction, and rebuilding the run down greenhouse, so he was hoping to get their estate done on time for the upcoming winter.
It was until then Rip came upon the front desk that she met the tall gentleman dressed in a black butler suit, and as soon she paid at the register for admission, the gentleman whom she learn is named Sebastian spoke up.
"Good evening, hello. Excuse me ma'am," Sebastian said, being polite, as he noticed she's carrying her child in tow. "But are you sure it's safe for you to go inside with an infant?" Sebastian raised an eyebrow, as the demon had never seen a vampire before, as he sense she carried an aura of death and blood around her. While he has knowledge of darkness and undead, but so far there's only demons, angels, and reapers in his world where he came from.
no subject
So when it came to the admissions for the haunted house and then being stopped by the man at the front desk, her reaction was one of slight amusement. Already she could sense there was something dark about him and where that did put her on alert with her daughter in her arms, she also had a feeling that he wouldn't attempt anything. Or, if he did, he'd have a very irate mother vampire on his hands.
And where she didn't think she was as strong as her mate, she might just surprise herself when defending her daughter.
"Zhere is nothing in there zhat should scare her or me und even if it does, She's my daughter, zhe fear von't last long. Vho knows, she might even find it as funny as I do."
no subject
The demon glanced at her for a moment, sensing the same darkness from her. Only because he haven't met a vampire before in his world. To his knowledge, the only vampire literature that was available and recently released in his world was a book called, "Dracula" by Bram Stoker.
However, in the other world where he traveled and lived
(Nova City, Genessia), where there was more advanced technology, he has seen quite a number of vampire movies, but the demon thought of them as ridiculous...and yet the vampires and their blood-drinking ways is what makes them all the more admirable, a fearsome creature feasting on humanity terror and fear.Still, the demon doesn't say anything, and since she insisted, he opens a drawer and over the front desk, there's a paper presented in front of her.
"I won't stop you then. Just read what's on here and sign this paper please. It's a waiver where you released us from liability." He said, in a professional, business-like tone. "However, I think it should be no problem since the actors won't be touching you. But they will be chasing you around...." Then smiling, being friendly. "I suggest you run faster and take care. It's a maze with twist and turns, so don't get lost~."
But he trusts she runs fast, as vampires are known for their agility. The moment she agrees to sign the waiver, he handed her a flashlight and a map with designated exits, which he does for all guests as a courtesy, as she's free to go in, beyond the door that leads to a corridor in complete darkness. "Here you go, just go pass the door and have a fun night."
no subject
"Perhaps you should varn your crew about getting too close to a vampire mozher and her child." A friendly warning though, she was here to have fun so, chances were whatever they thought was scary, she'd laugh at anyway. Besides, he was right. Rip could run fast and as she stepped into the maze of a haunted house, she felt like she was ready for everything with Victoria in her arms who was already giggling like a happy baby.
no subject
Meanwhile, Alucard finished most of the shipment. He doesn't mind the hard work, because carrying hundreds of pounds of crops and put it on the box for the morning guys to pick it up and distribute it to the market, it's good exercise and weightlifting, and hopefully tomorrow, he gets paid.
By his watch, he was 45 minutes late, but he finished his task at last. He wanted to join his wife and mate who went ahead of him. Considering it's a nice, quiet night for them to bond as a family, he got dressed, wearing his best...his red wide-brimmed hat and his red duster coat, and his pair of sunset orange glasses.
He made his way to the haunted house located on a hill, grinning toward it. Maze, huh? Looks like fun, but he doesn't find it scary. But to him, it looks much...classier considering it's a Victorian house made in a Victorian style and that made him reminiscent of his count days. He paid his way in, and being a badass, he didn't bother taking a map or flashlight. Because he's a vampire, he doesn't need them.
At the entrance door, he sent a text to her phone:
"Hey baby, I just got here. Are you somewhere in this house? Shall I go find you? Or...perhaps do you both want to play hide and seek?"
no subject
She paused when she felt her phone go off and pulled it out to see the text. It was about time he joined them. Though.. Rip grinned, in very high spirits as she sent a message back.
We're somewhere.. Lets play hide and seek. It'll be fun in a place like this.
no subject
Though Alucard don't feel like cheating to use his third eye to find her. That would be too easy. If he did, he could see everyone within the building the same way a night vision goggles will work. Though not that he needs to do that either, because he can detect his targets by smell and sight too without any use of his vision at all, and he can hear the slightest movement and breathing of a living being hiding right behind the corner if Alucard stands completely still and focus his vampiric senses.
He wondered if his own wife trusted him to wait and if he caught her, would she be excited if he did? Still standing by the entrance door, texting back.
Hmm, my dear huntress wants to play. All right. Would you give me a hint in where you're hiding...?Like what's in the room?
no subject
Your dear huntress always wants to play with her King. We're in a room with plenty of bodies.
From the looks of it, she would get some sort of axe murder butcher's shop or something along those lines.
no subject
When he found her, he greeted her with a kiss. "Sorry, I'm late." He said. Raising a family and running a small operation of his business, he didn't have time to play with them as much as he likes but having a daughter that carries his own bloodline makes quite a difference in his priorities.
"Interesting house, if I do say so myself. Shall we explore the rest and find the exit?" And perhaps afterward, spending the rest of the night quietly at home with his family.
no subject
Her focus was completely on her family."I vouldn't vorry too much about being late. Victoria und I just had a little fun vhile ve vaited." She smiled and bounced the baby a little in her arms. Their little victory was giggling and being an all around happy baby at the moment as she looked up at her parents.
"Zo yes, lets keep exploring und find zhe exit. Aftervards ve can return home for a quiet night I zhink."
Action
He enters the house like he owns the place - no surprise there - and he smirks at anyone who is already enjoying the sights and sounds.
"Are you afraid?" his expression will fall dramatically, "Poor thing. Let me escort you!"
Re: Action
"There are far more frightful things about than spiders and ghosts and cobwebs. But if you'd like to escort me, I suppose I might let you. Heaven hasn't wanted anything to do with me in centuries anyway."
Action
"I don't think it will be that terrifying, Ciel."
