ok quick question
where can a guy get a cup of coffee
it's been days and I feel like there's an elephant tapdancing on my skull
[ETA 12/12/18: holy wow these are late, it's 1000% my bad and I blame nobody for ignoring any ancient backtags you receive from me because YIKES. it's not you it's me etc.]

[He’s never grown coffee before—granted, he’s never grown anything; he hadn’t been in charge of the rooftop garden at the hostel, but...there’s something almost peaceful about the idea of learning.]
fresh ground is just when you grind the beans right before you brew the coffee instead of buying beans already ground and storing them. haven’t tried it, haven’t lived.

It makes a difference?
[Listen: he's so new to coffee but he loves it so much. Teach him the ways of the coffee snob, friend.]

give me some time to grow and roast them and I'll blow your mind
it's kinda hard to describe but the grounds get stale over time; it's like the difference between something you've just cooked ten minutes ago and leftovers that have been in the freezer for a week

Does it look different?

how much do you know about coffee already?

[Out and sent before his fingers can stop themselves.]
I know the plants are easy to grow and apparently indeterminate.
And that what they make here is delicious.

[The message came in a little too fast for Percy's comfort--he remembers with a cold shiver what it's like to feel like you have to apologize for everything, and with what's probably an equal amount of thought (or lack thereof), he turns instinctively to consolation.]
i worked at a cafe and book shop for almost two years, thats the only reason i know any of this stuff.
the basics are yeah, it's from the coffee bean and it's delicious, you're definitely right about that. you harvest the beans, clean them and roast them and then from there grind them up and use some kind of hot water to brew. Or cold, actually, but it takes like 18 hours, so i'm always too impatient
the difference between drip coffee and espresso is that drip coffee is made in a machine. the water's heated up and pushed through a little basket with a filter in it, and the filter's filled with coffee grounds. it "drips" into the coffee pot (which is why it's called drip coffee). that's usually what you get when you ask for "coffee" at like a diner or something?
espresso is a different kind of machine. it's stronger than drip coffee because it's more concentrated, you use it to make lattes and stuff. if you order a plain espresso you do it by shots, it comes in a tiny cup.
does that make any sense? If I find a machine or a pic of one I'll show you.

Then it's so utterly comprehensive that it's not reassuring, but the security of having the message to scan over a few times takes the edge off.]
I think so. It's the processing? Like barley?
If I bring you some beans, can you show me?

now that you mention it showing you is probably easier huh
i dunno if i can find an espresso machine but ill look, itd be neat to have one
as long as i dont burn my face off or anything haha
