[ACTION]
[She steps down from the bus and tugs at the strap around her shoulder tighter - she travels light, but there's something rather long, carefully wrapped, strapped between her bag and back. Squinting lightly at the warm summer sun, she sighs. Mixed feelings, all in one breath. This lady travels light except for the baggage in her mind.
Still, as she treads through the beaten paths towards an x in a map (excellent orientation skills, for one), she looks around carefully with what seems like a half smile in her piercing gaze. Yet, when she finds the place in the map, she keeps walking around, checking the Community center, the city, - greeting a couple of kids playing outside with a smile - walking through the beach... ending up finally at the Saloon around the evening, asking for a cup of tea at the counter.
Where do you meet her? ]
[That's exactly where she is when the video feed opens up. She's looking down at the screen, kohl rimmed eyes scrutinizing the device with a somewhat disappointed expression to them. She tsks.]
So unintuitive. How old is this?
[Dexterous fingers reach the screen and blip! goes the feed
Ring ring?]

[Timey-wimey things of how RP is just how it be sometimes.
It was hard to ignore the.. differences, the changes and way spoken to, how some things were spoken about, when catching a familiar face. With Jesse and Jack things had been.. well. Hardly any different than ever, all on the same page more or less.
Angela was older, not some fresh faced young woman studying to be a doctor, something in how she spoke— Ana was older too, a part of his always suspicious and paranoid, but this was Ana. Wanted to trust as he always knew he could, and all of this was strange.
Easier to keep leaning back against the counter and talk, corner of his mouth twitching and for once trying to silence the urge to be suspicious.]
I'm sure. [Amusement in his tone. Really, he knew the basics of survival in quite a few conditions, but farming was.. not that. Could probably use what he did know to help, all of them had that basic survival training after all. Right?
Just had to take some advice from farm boy himself.] Let's just hope it doesn't somehow follow us here, too.

[That's a dig. In her memory, the last time - a rare moment - someone decided to bring out a watchpoint's hidden alcohol stash, Gabriel and Jack drank a whole taskforce under the table. They'd probably need the whole Saloon to get even closer to a light buzz.
Her eyes squint just a little to join him at his mirth, feet swinging slowly.] I do mean it. You and Jack are not the type to do things halfway.
[That alone goes a long way - especially when it comes to anything heavy on logistics. That, Ana knows. Aside from that, she thinks that it's only a matter of time until they start doing something like raising chickens.
With Jesse calling them 'ladies', or even 'dames'--
Record screech. She gives him a look, leans forward to go and knock on the wood of a drawer by her leg...
... but stops, the smile starting to come back.] You know what, that could be a good thing. Whoever brought us here would be so filled with paperwork, it would be the perfect diversion.
no subject
[There was that flash of a grin, even if it had been a long.. long time since he or Jack had gotten up to something like that. Here?.. well, maybe at some point they'd both need to loosen the hell up before they did something far more drastic than a conspiracy wall in the basement.
Besides going around town questioning people and diving in to the mines and all.
His head tipped, because he couldn't disagree, corner of his mouth twitching.] Guess neither of us know how to do it any other way.
[Chickens. Bees. Corn. Fruit trees. The possibilities of things to come are...
Things.
Gabriel snorted, a hand going over his mouth because—] The cruelest of diversions.
no subject
[Not that she sees the three of them lowering their guard just enough to willingly seek some loss of their own bearings any time soon. It's been a long time for her as well; first, too many things to do, then taking care of a child, then a teenager...
While a little bit of oblivion sounded perfect, just what she needed at times, Ana wouldn't be able to handle the voice in the back of her head holding herself accountable if she tried.
Still, it had been pleasant, that time. She remembers her cheeks hurting from laughing non-stop.]
I don't think that's a bad thing. [Even if the both of them would start stressing if outside factors wouldn't allow them to go through whatever they did to the end. But that's usually what she's there for.
She shows the palms of her hands up; not a shrug, but a 'see?'.] Even the mighty corn demons would lose to that.
no subject
[Just like the buzz or pleasant oblivion that could come before it. Occasionally it could yes but that was a price all it's own.
Recently? Recently too much work and planning and everything else that came with running a black ops group alongside a much more public group and everything else made that a rather poor idea. A thought entertained here or there but nothing more.
Still, good times. Good, good times.
Then he hopped his ass up on to the counter rather than just leaning against it. There was room for one more after all.]
Gets shit done, or over done. [Or the two of them nearly drive themselves insane trying to do it but yeah. She was good at reigning them in. It was.. Good, in it's own way when they couldn't get themselves.]
We may have discovered the corn demons' arch-nemesis. Red Tape.
no subject
Instead, she wiggles a little on the counter to make some more room for him on the counter. She gives an evaluating look at the counter itself. It hasn't creaked despite the weight of two soldiers on it... yet. Probably a good sign, if they don't have to work on the structural part of the house. More time to focus on what's important.] You haven't worked on this, have you?
Hm. Maybe we should change our name to Overachieve. [Not that she can talk, but shhh.
She moves her tone to a grave, somber one.] Especially with its greatest weapon: Deadlines.
no subject
Or under them. Gabriel was sure of that; a cupboard door or something might need fixing but hey. They were all small things that just added up that way.] Seeing what's in stock and what it can do? Nah, been too busy. Like with helping Jack fixing this place up since I agree in wanting us all to stick together here.
You're also not wrong, maybe we can use it here. [Is he joking or not? Sometimes it was hard to tell.
A hand dramatically with over his heart, and to his forehead as well.] The most deadly of things! Nothing can ever defeat the Deadline.
no subject
I noticed that the tablet they gave us had a couple of apps we could use. I know it's probably not safe, but we can keep at least a list of what we need to fix things centralized.
[A chuckle.] Maybe. But let's leave the overachieving to some people to do, too.
[Another nod, and yet, this time it's with the little she can manage at "haunted eyes".] It even says in the name. "Deadli-nes". No way around it.
no subject
[A reason he was fine using the Jpad at all, but anything they wanted to keep private was likely just best kept off the thing. A list of what needed to be fixed around the house was perfectly fine to keep on it. Easily shared, too.
They'd be fine.]
That I can agree with, because I can honestly see Jack and I running ourselves ragged if not careful. [He knows the both of them well.
Yeah, this was another reason he like Ana.] That is so awful that it's perfect.
no subject
They're not exactly people who can afford having their info, no matter how harmless, scattered around by some sort of mayoral assistant. ] I suppose we can also keep an eye and see if there's anyone who's ... more than just comfortable with this kind of system.
[A snort.] And here I thought I wouldn't have to go after you to make sure you don't.
[That's a full laugh. Well, if there's anything that confirmed that this was Gabriel, was that he appreciated a bad joke.] I thought you would appreciate it.
no subject
And buses that could apparently travel through time and likely different.. dimensions? Ugh, it was a bit of a headache to think about for too long.] Yeah, couldn't hurt. Maybe we'll figure something a little more private if we ever need it. With some help.
[Help they could trust, of course...]
Never know, could get all caught up in a harvesting of.. corn. [Whatever else they ended up with, too.]
Going to have to drop that one on Jack eventually, sharing is caring.
no subject
[A sigh and a pointed look.] If any of you get possessed by the corn demon, I'm out. You're on your own.
Wh-- [She opens her mouth to protest, but stops. Her poker face was never really the best. She gives Gabriel a squint, but it's far from the one that makes little Fareeha gulp and Jesse tug on his collar.] Hey. Why does that sound like a threat?
no subject
Didn't hurt, right.
Gabriel huffed, mock offended.] Possibly a wise decision, but means you will have to live on the run. Even corn demons may want to collect the whole set.
[There was that slight upwards twitch at the corner of his mouth.] Because it's Jack who will get it dropped on him, and you'll get full credit for it?
no subject
Still, she mimics writing on a paper, grinning.] "Do you want to be my BFF - Y/N?" That will be nostalgic but I caught a couple of Fareeha so we need to be careful to not keep a paper trail.
[She arches her eyebrow in mock nonchalance.] You sound like you don't know I can cover my tracks.
[She stares at him, still squinting.] You... [ wouldn't? No, he would. She knows.] shouldn't.
no subject
Ah, but never doubt the supernatural nature of the corn demons. [This would never die and would probably end up becoming some little running joke down the line.
It was funny, okay.
The corner of his mouth twitched.] Oh, but shouldn't I?
no subject
[This joke has all the traits of something that will never leave them - it's been sown and it will only grow from now on, for the chagrin of those who don't know the three of them as well.] Oh, no. I'm so concerned.
[Hot air, really. But hell if she doesn't try to sound assured.
A finger comes up, barely wagging.] No.
no subject
[They will keep carrying this joke as long as it runs, because why not. There's something of a cornfield out there.] Wise to be.
Corn demons don't shuck around. [G a b r i e l.
It was honestly hard t hold back a laugh, corner of his mouth twitching in some poor attempt to hide it.] But what if yes.
no subject
Shuck...
Oh my god. That's it. She can't help it. She laughs loud and shakes her head, shoulders hunching.
Peeking from between her laughter, however, she does point that finger differently at him.] See, that's all on you, Gabriel Reyes. I'll throw that at Jack and do you think you'll hear the end of it?
no subject
Sure he allowed himself a chuckle, because hell if he could stop himself, or from it turning in to laughter for a little bit. Even with that finger pointed at him. Both hands held up then.]
Likely not, but I can live with that. Jack's used to my shit, you're a different story unless we've teamed up in something to get him to groan.
no subject
[It never stopped her before, though. It would have been a very concerned comment if she weren't still coming down from that giggling fit.] That sounds like you're both threatening me and proposing me something at the same time.
[Which doesn't really surprise her.]
no subject
[A compliment and a tease all wrapped up in to one, maybe looking like a child the way he still sat there on the counter. Palms rested against the flat surface just behind him and all.] Well.
Who better to team up and keep Jack from over-working himself here? Even if there's the occasionally terribly awful pun or joke to do it.
[Gabriel, why.]
no subject
[Said with a snort. It's very difficult to let go of the humor here. If anything, it tells her that they're both relieved they're in such a place, completely unknown albeit seemingly harmless.]
[She sighs, tucks her hair behind her ear as if considering the work in keeping Jack from wearing himself out all by her lonesome. It's a good idea.] Guess it's up to me to team up with Jack when the puns do get out of hand.
no subject
[Things could wait a little while longer before anything more serious took hold, almost as if this was something needed. Let it know that this could be found here as well just as easily as, well.
Paranoia and everything that came with it?]
I will agree to that, so long as neither you nor I are alone in getting him to sit down and breathe from time to time. Farm boy's in his element, and will likely try to work himself in to the ground. [Some times Gabriel was better at it, others Ana. Combined they had the better chance.
Right?]
no subject
[Right.
Even if...
The squint is back. ] But if we're teaming up together to stop jack from wearing jean overalls, and I'm teaming up with Jack to stop the apuncalypse... do I want to know what you and Jack will be teaming up for?
