1. Welcome to the Farm

For all that I was talking about settling down and growing some crops, I am not entirely certain I meant it.

[Chen regards the quaint farm, with its open fields and run-down greenhouse, from the fence gate -- one hand on his hip, the other still supporting the long staff he has slung over one shoulder, using its length as a lever to keep his massive keg upright.]

[Honestly, at his size, girth, and species, he can't help but stand out as something out of the ordinary.]

[At last he ventures on forward, taking the first step onto his new home.]

...Li Li would laugh at me, and then be bored. [That sentiment certainly brings a smile to his face.]

2. In Starhue Valley, Bear Welcome You!

[In a situation like this, there is only one thing to do: greet the neighbors!]

[So Chen sets out on a circuit around his farm and winding his way to every point of interest around, looking for people to say hello to. Out on the road? He's pacing his way over with a friendly hello. At home? Someone's knocking on your door! Out in your field hard at work? He's cheerfully vaulting the fence to approach.]

[...honestly that last one might be a little impressive.]

[Oh hey, it's a bear! Different than any she's seen in Equestria, but this ain't that unusual. She greets him with a little wary wave of her hoof, setting the rake down for just a moment.]

Howdy, neighbor! Pleased to---ah, careful, I've got something growing there.

[She maneuvers over to the little path she's designated, outlined with rocks.]

Oh, my apologies. [Chen quickly makes his way over to the marked path on tiptoes, then drops his bulk back down on the heels of his feet quite heavily.] I was certainly not trying to disturb your crops. Quite the opposite!

Don't worry. They can handle a little rough and tumble...at least, they'd better. That's what I picked 'em for, anyway.

[She tips her hat to him.]

So you're just here to be neighborly? I do say, I appreciate it. This sure is a strange place...but not too much stranger than I'm used to.

[Chen bows to her in return.]

Not only neighborly, but I am trying to learn what people are growing. I wish to know what ingredients are available that I can make drinks out of!

Oh, well that's easy! I'm starting with apples to try to get 'em ready for the harvest in a few months. They're kind of my specialty.

I'm also growing peaches, cabbage, and blueberries. There's more you can do, but I don't want to rush into too much too soon.

Apples seem to be a little popular! I met another woman who was beginning an orchard as well. I do enjoy hard cider, so if you are willing to sell some of your product for that purpose I shall have this entire valley drinking!

[And what better way to be, honestly?]

With everything you have told me, I think I would be happy to be a frequent customer.

Heh. You're lucky Rainbow Dash ain't here. She'd be up before the crack of dawn to fight you for it.

[She grins.]

Might take me a bit to get familiar with some of these new crops, but I'm not too worried about it. It'll be fun to learn!

Now that is the proper attitude! I will myself be looking forward to seeing what I can brew out of what we have here.
