[Click, tap, click, KKRRRRRRKT, that's definitely the sound of someone fiddling with their jPad. Do they realize it's on? Are they - yup! There, fingers on the camera lens. Wow those are pretty bony fingers - wait, are those made of wood? A soft voice mutters, slightly muffled by what's probably a hand on the speaker.]

Ah, I think that's it? It's doing...

[Finally, a hand moves, and there's a young woman's face, peering down at the camera with a look of curiosity and concentration.]

Yes, the light's on. I think that means it's working. Hello? ...hmm...

[Clearly she's a bit unfamiliar with the device. She also almost camouflages with the tree behind her, almost as if she's a tree herself. Still, she seems to be learning her way around, poking experimentally around the screen. Suddenly she has a ring of flowers across her hairline - does that count as hair? She lets out of soft "oh!" of surprise, then laughs in delight.]

How charming!

[Her eyes flick down the the screen when she hears the voice.]

[Her tone implies that this isn't the first time she's been asked that. But it's not annoyance, as much as...puzzlement? As if she's surprised that the answer isn't a given.]

Ah, wonderful! I... goodness, to try to tell you why I'm so excited would require a very long explanation. Suffice to say I have a very firm link to the trees myself, moreso even than you'd expect for someone with elven blood.

[She'd been just turning her head side to side to observe the flower crown, but at the grumbling, she looks to the screen again, tilting her head.]

[ Dear-- okay, that makes her feel a little nice, honestly? But she still grumbles. ]

[That gives her pause, then causes her to chuckle.]

[ here is a woman peering at her own screen, face and expression mostly hidden by the giant snake skull covering them but her eyes visibly wide. ]

That is very cute ... how did you do it?

I'm not certain...I think it was this symbol here?

[Not that she can really explain through demonstration on the screen, but she taps the button again and the flower crown goes away, replaced by a sepia tone filter.]

[ humming and tilting her head to one side before looking on her own screen for the area she'd seen the tree-woman poking at ]

It changed. What did the symbol look like ... ?

[She seems fine. She definitely seems fine.

But people fading into trees is a thing he knows, and it's a thing that usually means panic.]

[She raises an eyebrow at that question.]

Of course. Why wouldn't it be?

[The pad quickly translates that to a [Hello!] [Although even without the benefit of translation it's pretty obvious that it was a chirped greeting.]

Beekibi deebeep digi kidibeep! [I like your flowers!]

[She recognizes the chirping of a cricket anywhere. If she were a less natural being the sound might be a little too shrill, but she's fine with it. She raises an eyebrow at the translation though, impressed that this little thing is capable of doing so much.]

Why thank you! I'm not quite sure how I managed it, but...

[Already being familiar with the concept of other worlds even before she came here, Celia honestly doesn't have any questions about how Melanthieae looks like she's part tree, or maybe an actual sentient tree, reasoning to herself that the woman is likely her own world's form of nature spirit or something similar. Celia herself is her own world's form of wind elemental, so if anything, the dryad's presence is something of a slightly-familiar one, even if they've never met before.

The girl already has some familiarity with how this sort of thing works, too; the last communication device she'd used was more or less a magic rock, but the jPad honestly doesn't seem to be too much different otherwise. However, familiarity with how it works doesn't necessarily mean that she immediately identifies what's what, and so she doesn't realize that the camera is way too close to her face when she responds:]

I'm gonna guess that you've never seen somethin' like it before. It's kinda neat, isn't it?

Oh, I have, one of my shipmates at home has one, though he called it a slate. I never got a chance to take a good look at it though.

Oh, whoops, hang on. [She moves the jPad from her face a bit, then her eyes catch the device's camera, she adjusts the position and angle she's holding it at a little bit more. With these adjustments comes a view of where Celia currently is: on the roof of the house that she's sharing with Manfred and Firestorm. How'd she get up there?] I think this is better. Is this better?

There's something kinda similar to these back in the last world I was in, but these things are still pretty different from what I'm used to. [Compared to the runes, these jPads do way more stuff and it's actually pretty amazing to her.

She still has her rune with her, actually, it's inside the house and sitting among what bit of stuff she'd brought here with her. She doubts very much that it works right now, and even if it does still work, it would probably only be able to connect to anyone else who also came from the havens, assuming they brought theirs as well.]
