Oh my, I could write you a book... perhaps one day I shall. But for now, I'll give you a basic rundown.

The most important thing, naturally, is the soil. Fortunately for us, I don't think there's a single place in this valley where the soil isn't ideal. There would be tests you could apply to it, but really, under the circumstances, there's no need. That said, do make sure to dig the hole much wider than the tree itself when you plant it. The looser soil will make it much easier for the roots to grow. Speaking of which, you'll want to cover the roots with straw or hay until the fall. It helps keep them warm and gives them more nutrients to absorb.

You'll eventually have to worry about pruning and such, but not until a year or two has passed. Other than that, just remember to plant it someplace where it'll get eight hours of sun a day, and the water will drain away a bit when you water it. You don't want to drown it!
